Sand Casting Sand casting involves the pouring of molten metal into a cavity-shaped sand mould where it solidifies. The mould is made of sand particles held together with an inorganic binding agent. After the metal has cooled to room temperature, the sand mould is broken open to remove the casting. Super sand casting…. There’s a lot to consider when you are sand casting to get the perfect pour… size/angle of funnel, position of sprues and placement of airholes and you have to get a few duds before you can get it right! But when it all comes together it is immensely satisfying… Our wonderful students excelled themselves yesterday and took home some great pieces to finish.
