Ski mountaineering, or skimo, made its Olympic debut with uphill sprints, stairs and ski descents, featuring Americans Anna Gibson and Cameron Smith.

Swiss world champion Marianne Fatton easily won the first ever ski mountaineering Olympic gold medal amid heavy snowfall in the women's sprint on Thursday. Fatton completed the course in 2 minutes 59.

It is Day 13 of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and another eight medals are on offer. Heavy snowfall in Livigno has led to the postponement of the men's freeski halfpipe qualification, but women's qualification is still planned to go ahead later today.
