Project Hail Mary is the biggest hit film of 2026 (so far), opening in theaters to a $141 million worldwide, blowing out any prior projections for how the film would do.

“Project Hail Mary,” a science-fiction adventure starring Ryan Gosling, opened to an estimated $80.5 million in the U.S. and Canada this weekend.

It marks Amazon MGM’s biggest debut in the studio’s history and it’s the second-biggest opening for a non-franchise movie falling just behind “Oppenheimer” in 2023.
