New Jersey E-ZPass is testing new digital windshield stickers that could replace current transponders by year's end.
Massachusetts is rolling out a new kind of E-ZPass transponder this March, swapping out the old plastic cases with a smaller, cheaper sticker.
The new option would not require a battery. Massachusetts has already made the switch and says it will save $7.4 million a year.
